A Key Decade

Uranus-Pluto and Uranus-Neptune quadrature alignments appear only a few times per century. When they appear back-to-back we should expect magnitude level changes.

Since 1860 these alignments have occurred in the same or adjacent decades three times:

Between 2038 and 2049 we will see:

Uranus-90-Neptune; Uranus-180-Pluto

Turning Points

1822Uranus-270-Neptune1992Let us begin with the decades freshest in most of our memories. The 1960s is known for assassinations, riots, civil rights protests and, big picture, a shift to a more casual, tolerant culture across the West. It is also known for the Vietnam War, the Space Race, the Cold War and the Seven Day War. All of these events grew roots in the 1950s. dominated
While Uranus movednear exact square in the 1950s, many 1960s themes took shape:

Each of these events in some way became magnified in the 1960s. The Vietnam War, for instance, merged US involvement into Indo-China with the Cold War, turning the whole thing into a global proxy affair. The latter had separate ties to the Suez Canal Crisis; nations were choosing sides in their bid to secure indepndence. Nassar's 1956 natiionalization of the canal signaled the end of British and French Colonialism. Alegiance to the Uited States shifted because former powers were fading.

Big Events

Because Saturn traveled between Uranus and Neptune in the late 1980s into the 1990s, the effective conjunction period between the latter two is extended. The conjunction accompanied many watershed events such as:1993Uranus-0-Neptune2165

As I write this Uranus is within a few minutes of a square to Pluto. Across its effective range, 2008-2020, we have so far seen:

Across the West a general sense of inequality has taken center stage, exacerbated by how few bankers face prosecution. In the United States and United Kingdom, feelings of living inan unequal society are backed by facts. The EU deals with a youth unemployment that is most acute;it repeats to a lesser degree across industrialized nations. Many live, correctly, that we are living through an unsustainavble status quo. Since Uranus-Pluto hard aspects (quadrature alignments) often coincide with disruptive evens such as the French Revolution, these circumstances come as no surprise. The important question here is what a Uranus-Neptune and Uranus-Pluto hard aspects back-t-back with less than a decade feel like?

 Uranus-Neptune Hard Aspects 19th and 20th Centuries

A sense of nationalism pervades 1822Uranus--Neptune1992

If this sequence holds, we should expect events of similsr msgnitude in the lste 2030s and early 2040s. Aperfunctory guess would center around the shift to Asia, a reduction in US power and heavy stress in Europe to compete.. It is yet another reason  we should expect the 2040s to herald a half-century of uncertainty as nations choose new ways to deal with the realities of the 21st Century.

 Uranus-Pluto Uprisings

As Uranus moved toward its longitudinal conjunction with Pluto in 1851 Europe wrestled with the 1848 Revolutions. The Uranus-Pluto wave it inaugrated 1851-1965 carried the signature of that period across its range. At its core, the Revolutions and events of the 1850s came as industrial societies began to accelerate growth. As the Revolutions began there were no labor unions; by 1965 they played a central role across the world. The first feminist conference in Seneca Falls, 1848, launched with few followers, with women lacking the vote; by the mid-1960s women had the vote and feminism would move to its Second Wave.

Uranus moved into exact conjunction with Pluto in 1965 and 1966, but was within a few degrees for most of the 1960s. The nascent industrialism at the 1850s conjunction had expanded into entirely new dimensions, with its class implications moving with it. The Cold War peaked in the 1960s, pitting a socialist industrial complex against a capitalist one. One thing was for sure. The industrial base was the new foundation on which societies built.
The next chapter in industrialism, 1966-2104, is built on an invention of the 1960s: the Internet.
Much like the previous chapter, the new one revolves around industry and labor. Its concerns, however, almost oppose previous aims. Labor is global. Few geographic restrictions protect it. At the same time, wages and salaries supports present economies. Trends of labor versus industry are on an unsustainable path.

What  the global society decides or decides not to do during the 2010s Uranus-Pluto square determines much of the path 2035-2085.

 A Sum of Its Parts

The confluence of evidence should make us sit up and take notice. If Uranus, Neptune, Pluto hard aspects coincides with historical turning points, two in the 2040s overlap. Further, they begin a pattern that reflects the one 1867-1920, leading up to and including World War I. The pattern technically begins in 2035 and ends in 2085.

Challenges Ahead

Outer planet measurements may simply confirm what we may figure out without them. Nothing wrong with confirmation. Think of Measuring History as another tool. Some may use it, others not. Either way, a cursory look at the 2040s and beyond by any method points to great challenges ahead. More than that, it suggests dealing with a paradox that could take centuries to answer: how to live in abundance at the edge of collapse. (More on paradox at Paradox2140:Progress)

'God is Dead and we have killed him'

Our greatest challenge is our collective success. Humans have adapted to live on every corner of the planet. The most prevalent economic demand is middle-class security. Politicians must offer more than a chicken in every pot. The experiement over the next few decades is whether or not a majority of the planet's population can live in relative abundance. This potential arrives through human ingenuity and ability, magnified daily via every better technology. When Nietzsche said 'God is Dead and we have killed him' he was thinking of this paradox. We can no longer blame nature for disaster. The planet is now in human hands.
We can see Why the 2040s are Already Here by combining observations. Outer planet measurements tell us that after the 2010s decade of profound social change, the late 2030s and early 2040s is when we can expect the developments of this magnitude. When you look there, you can only conclude that our current path leads toward preventable collapse. If Not Now,When?
