Even Mad Men Mirror the Planets
Matt Weiner, creator/producer of Mad Men was born in 1965 (but his birth day is unknown; c’mon Matt). His show resonates with a wide audience because he chose a different way to view the seminal 1960s decade. The abstract ideas of race, class and sexism come to us in the flawed, and thus more human, characters of Peggy, Don, Joan and Pete. One reason why comes from the fact that we still struggle to integrate the events of that decade. Ironically, our view comes clouded by the sunny, but unrealistic shows like The Dick van Dyke Show and Bewitched. From decades away we get, through a fictional show, perhaps a truer version of the story than when it happened. Certainly, none of the media or studios spoke of race, class or gender as Matt does now.
Outer Planet Similarities
The diagrams (left) display details the outer planet positions 1962–1969, with particular focus on the 1964–1967 Saturn opposition to the 1965–1966 Uranus-Pluto conjunction. Each diagram contains pictures that pop up more information on click or rollover. Each pop up contributes to the narrative.
More Later
Planets keep moving. I’ll post an update soon that compares their position in 2010 to the ones in the 1960s.
