Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei (15 February 1564 – 8 January 1642)
Commonly known as Galileo Gallilei, he stands at the center of the creation of modern science. His work in astronomy proved beyond a doubt the geocentic model of our solar system. Eventual written work put him in dispute with the Vatican. He was shown tools of the Inquisition, was forced to renounce his theory and confined to house arrest for the rest of his life.
The story of his life goes well beyond this incident. he created new experiments, invented new devices and improved existing ones. his observations of our solar system confirmed Copernican heliocentrism and created the modern scientific method.
